On Aug. 27, 1935, the Interstate Compact to Conserve Oil and Gas was approved by the 74th Congress, and the Interstate Oil Compact Commission was born.
According to historians of American governments, the accomplishments of the IOGCC are unmatched. This remarkable organization has repeatedly succeeded where governments at all levels have failed.
With 75 years of continuous service to the states and the nation, the IOGCC's history is rich with accomplishment and statesmanship. The Commission has championed the conservation and efficient recovery of our nation's petroleum resources for the past 75 years.
Since its creation in 1935, the IOGCC has assisted states in balancing a multitude of interest-maximizing domestic oil and natural gas production, minimizing the waste of irreplaceable natural resources, and protecting human and environmental health- through sound regulatory practices. The IOGCC plays an active role in Washington, D.C., serving as the voice of the states on oil and natural gas issues and advocating states' rights to govern the resources found within their borders.
